MISSION

The Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians Foundation (MAFPF) promotes and enhances Family Medicine through community outreach and the funding of education and research to improve the health of all Mississippians. The Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians.

GOALS

The Foundation promotes and enhances the specialty of family medicine through the following goals: 

• Provide outreach to the community to raise awareness of the economic impact and health benefits of the family physician;
• Coordinate community education programs in schools to promote healthy habits; 
• Provide scholarships to high school seniors and medical students to pursue a career in family medicine; 
• Encourage medical students to pursue family medicine as their intended specialty; 
• Enhance the educational preparation and training of prospective family physicians; 
• Support research activities in family medicine, which ultimately result in improved patient care; 
• Achieve sustainability; and 
• Support the mission of the Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians.

What is Family Medicine? 

• Family medicine provides the patient a medical home, comprehensive, compassionate and personal healthcare. 
• Family medicine is a medical specialty solidly grounded in science and technology; family physicians provide scientific, evidence-based, patient-centered care.

What do Family Physicians do? 

• Family physicians provide patients with a personal medical home-building relationships with patients, listening, taking time to explain and effectively coordinating overall care. 
• Family physicians provide care for people of both genders and all ages. 
• Family physicians help patients navigate the healthcare system by humanizing medicine. 
• Family physicians make a difference in the lives of patients, their families and the community.
• Family physicians emphasize disease prevention and health maintenance in addition to treating illness.
