Office of Physician Workforce Becomes a Reality

The MAFP has just learned the Governor has signed into law HB 317, the legislation establishing the Office of Physician Workforce (OPW) and an additional $1 million to create a community based family medicine residency program.

We want to thank Representative Sam Mims, Chairman of the Public Health and Human Services, for championing this bill on our behalf.

As one of the strategic goals of the MAFP, your leadership has worked hard these past six months to create legislation, make contacts, and assist in securing the passage of this important bill. We appreciate our members communicating to House and Senate members when asked. This bill will change the face of family medicine in our state.
