On Saturday, by a vote of 209-31, the MSMA House of Delegates voted to no longer require members of MSMA to join the AMA. More than two hours of debate was heard on Friday night. The House heard compelling arguments from both sides of the issue, both to remain unified and to de-unify.

Dr. Randy Easterling, President of MSMA, said, “For the first time the AMA will have to earn your membership. I can assure you MSMA has earned every penny of your membership and will continue to do so long into the future.” “Do what you like in regard to the AMA, but do not leave MSMA.” Dr. Easterling went on to say he will remain a member of the AMA, because he believes that is the only way to effect its actions.
